Profile of Artist:

Poojari M. Munirathnam was fortunate to complete his Diploma course in drawing and later did a course in Kalamkari from Handicrafts board Andhra Pradesh. Since last 4 decades Rathnam is practicing this folk art and exhibited his paintings at various places.

Kalamkari is an esteemed traditional art form that has its roots in India.

Kalamkari is a 3000-year-old art form practiced in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana The legacy of the ancient form of art has been passed on from generation to generation The process of kalamkari painting is very slow and dynamic. It goes through a process of resist — dyeing and hand printing.

At present Rathnam is a guest faculty for kalamkari course in S.V.I.T.S.A.,T.T.D., TIRUPATI.

There are only few remaining skilled Kalamkari artists living and working today, Rathnam is among them.

We need to continue to support living Kalamkari artists in order to preserve this beautiful art form.
